Cuba, the largest island in the Caribbean, is a dream yacht charter destination for sailors thanks to its white sandy beaches, coral reef islands, the stunning valley of royal palms and the numerous photogenic colonial villages.
Starting off in Cienfuegos towards the east, you can sail to the Queens Garden (Jardines le la Reina). On your way, you will cross the city of Trinidad. You can sail for about 320 sea miles in an area that will delight nature lovers, divers and snorkelers (please note diving with bottles is only permitted with a guide!). An incredible wealth of fish, turtles, flamingos, iguanas and rock lobsters awaits you - a paradise. Whoever likes things to be a bit more touristic, can set sails towas the west and visit the island of Cayo Largo and the many Cayos with about 250 miles. And if you have more time, you can also circumsail the island of Juventud, und thus sail for about 390 nm.. The marina of Cienfuegos has mooring places, electricity, water, a petrol station, gas, WC, showers, waste disposal, a card phone to get hooked up to the internet, weather forecasts, sea maps, and a safety & security service. In the freshly renovated building of the yacht club of Cienfuego (1920) you will find various restaurants and shops.
If possible, you should visit Havana for sure, stay for a couple of days, and indulge the flair and joy of life this beautiful city is pouring out!
The best time to sail is from December until May with winds coming from the east/north east with forces between 3-6 Bft.. Alongside the coral reefs, there might be currents. Tidal range of about 0,6 m. Shallow water navigation.
October until May 26–30 °C, in Winter cooler nights. Water temperatures: October until May 24–28 °C.
